TIEMPO PROFUNDO
The Tiempo Profundo series is an exploration of copper’s potential for oxidation and reduction, and the distinctive hues that emerge as a result of these processes. Each metal plate begins as a pristine surface, which is then altered by an explosion that leaves its first indelible mark. Over time, thin lines gradually appear on the surface, progressing from brown and electric orange to yellow, green, and finally blue, until crystals begin to form several months later. The resulting landscape-like forms bear witness to the slow passage of time, evoking a sense of timelessness.
This series is inspired by the concept of Tiempo Profundo, first described by James Hutton, who recognized that the creation of the Earth was not the sudden and dramatic events narrated in the biblical past, but rather a slow and imperceptible process that unfolded over an unimaginable span of time.
